The Global Search component displays search results from across the site and can be found at the top of every page in Elements. The results shown are based on search terms entered and can be displayed in one list or in multiple tabs. You can search for any object available to you. It is also a relevant search so it will return results you have viewed most often first.
As soon as you click in the search box, the list of instant results helps you get to records faster. You can enter keywords, phrases, or partial words to search for specific records such as Relationships, Contacts, or Financial Accounts. You can also search for specific data within those records, such as email addresses, phone numbers, or custom fields.
When you click in the search box, you see a list of five recent items as well as other helpful suggestions such as recent List Views. Selecting an item takes you right to its record page.
As you start typing a search term, you have even more options specific to your search term.
You can also narrow your search results by selecting the type of record you are looking for from the dropdown menu on the left. For example, you can select to only search for Contacts.
Hover over your selection and you will have options to see pertinent information, edit the record, or access Related List Quick Links on the right pane.
If you don't see the record you want, press Enter to see the full search results. You can select to see search results by their type on the pane on the left. Or scroll through results sorted by relevance on the main page.
While the Global Search is a powerful tool, it is best to be as specific as possible for the best results. For example, if you're searching for John Smith, it's best to search for the full name.
